for the ASKO Schoenberg Ensemble
A single word is presented in the form of electronic playback, setting the tone for the music that is to come. The music that immediately follows has two layers: a foreground and a background. The background music has an abstract relationship with the word that begins the section. It sets an atmosphere, which creates a new layer of meaning when reflected onto the word. The foreground, however, mimics the pre- recorded text.
